Lotus—Downtown’s newest addition
We attended a fabulous hump-day lunch at Lotus this week. It’s not every Wednesday that you enjoy a six-course tasting menu in Downtown Orlando.
Lotus is located in the old Prickly Pear space. They’ve updated the look and it’s super fresh and modern. Hot pink and green pillow fill the room with brightness, while the black balances everything out. They definitely have a fun vibe. We’re eager to check it out in the evening.
Here’s the scoop on the food. We love that they are super creative. We enjoyed a couscous pocket, lotus chips in a to die for curry sauce, veggie tacos with pickled onions and a mild, delicious, soft cheese I have never heard of, all served on top of the fluffiest little tortilla I’ve ever had. We also love that they are vegetarian-friendly. They have a handful of vegetarian items on their menu and they are happy to modify non-veggie recipes to suit your diet. Everything we had was incredibly flavorful and very rich. Diner beware, you will leave very full. While they do have soups and salads, the menu is not for the calorie conscious, but hey, we all need to indulge once in a while.
Like any new restaurant, they are still working some things out. We found a couple (not all) of the dishes to be very salty and, of course, the staff is as new as the restaurant. Everyone is learning and we can forgive that.
All in all, we had a lovely experience. We wish this new business so much success in our community and we are eager to revisit as they continue to improve. In the meantime, we always recommend that you stop by and give them a taste and your feedback.
