Hubbly Bubbly: Falawesomeness in College Park
This post is long over due. I originally stopped by the Hubbly Bubbly Falafel Shop when they opened in College Park back in September. I planned on doing a write up then, but I was in the midst of starting a new job and going on vacation. Unfortunately, the post never happened. With so much time having past, I only felt it appropriate to go back for a Hubbly Bubbly Round 2, to make sure the experience was fresh in my mind. Of course, wanting more of the Hubbly Bubbly mazel tots might have also had something to do with it, but we’ll get to those shortly.
To me the name Hubbly Bubbly can’t help but create a fun and playful feeling (trying to say it 10 times fast too could also be a fun game), so when we stopped by the restaurant I was happy to see the place had the same feel.
The restaurant’s interior space is small with just a handful of two seater tables and fun baby blue and yellow chairs. The huge “bubbly” font used for their logo and the cartoony Hubbly Bubbly Falafel guy are both displayed on the main back wall, and offer up a Bob’s Burger kinda feel. However, I’ve only seen that show a few times so take that comparison with a grain of salt, or maybe I should say ” with a few fried bread crumbs” since we’re talking about a Falafel joint. The restaurant also has a covered outdoor eating space that sports more colorful chairs and another Hubbly Bubbly wall graphic.
Ordering takes place assembly line style, where your food is made to order. Both times I visited, I ordered the falafel pocket sandwich and the mazel tots. Both were delicious. When I went with my friend during my second visit, she ordered the falafel salad and it was so pretty it made me wish I had tried it too. But there’s always next time, so I wasn’t too distraught. As for the mazel tots, I’m going to say they are a must have addition to your meal. They are like a hash brown ball of wonderful goodness and I’m obsessed.
I’ve also heard that their pocket bread is freshly baked and locally sourced and their hummus is made from scratch. Their mazel tots are also individually handmade. That must be why they taste so good.
Hubbly Bubbly’s meal prices also receive a thumbs up. Their tasty food is very reasonably priced. I enjoyed my pocket sandwich and mazel tots and walked out the door only about $8 poorer, but was definitely happy with my purchase.
The staff is also extremely pleasant but it does seem that they are still figuring a few things out. During our first visit they forgot to give us/charge us for a side of pita chips and hummus we ordered. However, once they realized it, they did properly handled the situation by giving us the side for free. I also noticed the second time we visited that a customer asked if pita chips were included with a meal and a staff member said yes, only to then find out they weren’t.
All things considered, Hubbly Bubbly is a wonderful new addition to the College Park area and I’ll definitely be going back to get my mazel on sometime soon. If you get a chance to stop by Hubby Bubbly, let us know what you think.
