When I recently heard that one of my fave restaurants, Hot Olives, had moved to a new location in Winter Park I was in disbelief. I truly couldn’t figure out what they were thinking. I mean had they never heard of the saying if it ain’t broke don’t fix it? I was sure there was no way that the new location could ever match the charm and character that their previous spot on W New England Ave. had provided. So a few weeks ago we headed over to their new place to test the waters and see if I too could come to love what the new Hot Olives had to offer.
So what are my thoughts you ask? Well although the restuarant’s style is slightly different, the core components that make up Hot Olives are still the same. . . outstanding food, great service and a warm and inviting atmosphere. There are even a few improvements. The new location boasts mores space and a larger bar, which I must admit I am partial to on those nights when it’s crammed full of patrons. As for the style of the new space, it’s more a mix of warm modern with a hint of a rustic feel rather than the once airy tropical contemporary feel the old location used to have (sorry to those design experts who feel I have not correctly described the spaces. . . I am no interior decorator). In the food department I have to say nothing as changed. The appetizers and entrees are just as delicious as they ever were. Our fried hot olives were devine as well as the lobster bisque soup. BEST SOUP EVER!! Each taste is a little piece of heaven. My husbands chicken entree and my pasta dish also got high marks.
So although I was somewhat skeptical when I first arrived for our visit, I must admit that in the end I give the new Hot Olives a BIG thumbs up!
