Last week I had my first acupuncture treatment at Harmony Wellness Center. I am not ashamed to say that I am completely biased when it comes to Harmony Wellness Center. Harmony owner, Christina Prieto, also owns Harmony Yoga Studio right next door and she is exceptional. The kind of person who makes you feel welcomed whenever you are in her presence.
Lately I’ve been feeling like something is just not right. In short, tightness and discomfort on the right side of my lower back, insatiable thirst and a couple of other ailments that may be TMI. I am in no way suggesting that you seek alternative medicine in favor of traditional medicine (I’m not advising against it either!), but it can definitely be complimentary.
In search of resolution of my aching, thirsty body, I went to see Christina at Harmony Wellness. After a very in-depth discussion and some poking around she suggested acupuncture and cupping and so we did it. I’ve had acupuncture once before so the experience wasn’t new to me. However, it was definitely the better of my (limited) experiences. I sat with the acupuncture needles for about 20 minutes and then we moved onto the cupping, which I loved!
Cupping consists of a glass cup removed of oxygen (using a flammable substance and fire…sounds dangerous, but there are professionals we are dealing with) and then suctioned onto your back. This was AMAZING. I felt instant relief on my lower back, as though all of the crap that was making me ache got sucked into the cup. I could even hear crunching as the cups rid my soft tissue of tension. The cups do leave little circular marks on your back, but I felt kind of badass about the whole thing so I didn’t mind. I didn’t get a photo of this, but I have three more sessions so stay tuned to our Facebook page or follow me on instagram (lauradiaz) for the photos. Maybe Christina will even take some of the acupuncture needles sticking out of me!
