Brian Feldman Projects-”txt” at Urban ReThink

Last night I stopped by Urban ReThink to check out the interactive show, “txt”, created and performed by the award-winning conceptual artist Brian Feldman. During the hour-long performance, Brian plays the role of a mysterious character named txt who recites anything that his audience anonymously tweets to him. Let us not forget that tweets are 140 characters or less! Yes, you heard right! YOU make the “script”! Brian doesn’t utter a word unless it comes to him via his phone, from the audience. As I’m sure you can guess, a concept like this can lead to a very entertaining show!

I have to admit I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The concept sounded interesting, but when I went to sit down with the 15 or so other people in the tiny room where the performance was held, I felt a little awkward. All that stood in front of us was a table, a chair and a lamp, all placed on a wooden platform. I actually had a moment of hesitation wondering how we were ever going to sit for an entire hour, staring at Brian while he read us tweets, and still stay entertained!

My doubts quickly faded away as the tweets, along with the laughs, started rolling in, and txt shared with us the random and unexpected thoughts of our fellow audience members. He shared some details about our pets (someone really really liked turtles), sang a few songs (Sir Mix-a-lot, Rebecca Black and a few other artists were featured), and of course no conversation would be complete without a comment or two regarding bodily functions!

As the hour went on, the tweets only became funnier and more absurd. I’m tempted to share them here, however, I’m going to refrain and urge you to go check the show out for yourself! Brian will be holding two more performances at Urban ReThink later this month: 7/18  and 7/25 from 7pm-8pm. The admission cost is donation based, with a suggested donation of $10. The cost also includes a PDF script of the performance, emailed to you after the show, so you will never forget the fun you had!

Check out the show’s Facebook event page for more details on “txt”, and if you’re interested in other community events head over to Urban ReThink’s calendar to see what’s happening at their facility this month!

NOTE: Adult content could potentially be referenced during the show “txt” and may not be appropriate for children.
